A Dynamic Dilemma

Remember those old audio cassettes from the 90s that saw the dawn of early 2000s while spinning on a pencil that struggled to keep them in relevance. The art of pencil winding was lost like a forklore when our hands where occupied by iPods(or basically any Chinese spinoff) and while we were busy adding the latest mp3 songs through “songsPK” or “Djmaza” on our 1gb memory cards, the telephone that we were familiar with was evolving, right under our nose. From T9 to QWERTY to Touch screens, the dynamics of telephony was changing and with the advent of modern technology going from GBs to TBs, A multipurpose cellphone or as it is called today, a ‘Smartphone’ was born.

Change is the world. One couldn’t deny it. This small example was a hint that how far we have seen this change in our life. We might associate a feeling of nostalgia for all the gadgets that are now obsolete but in this ever changing, ever evolving world, these deaths are bound to happen. Not just with technology, with everything that presently feels significant in our lives.

Our own mind is also dynamic. Biologically, our cells die and new cells occupy their space and it is said that in every 7 years, our whole body is recreated. Our skin, our tissues and ever our brain. Our brain perceives information and tries to differentiate whether the information is useful or is just some raw data. This addition of new information changes our previous notions and kind of ‘updates’ our knowledge bank. This addition of information can be anything ranging from facts, statistics or myth busters but the importance of such addition is that it forms an ideology which might be on terms with our previous one or might be completely different.

Like I said, addition of information is dynamic process but the acceptance of it might not be so dynamic. Challenging previous notions can be tough and even traumatic for people who have been relying on them for a long time. The burden of falsehood and the nostalgia of being ‘right’ will continue to haunt them. Should we allow change to break us? Should we allow change to scare us?

NO. You shouldn’t build up your notions and ideologies like glass that will shatter every time the hammer of information hits it. Your ideologies should be like clay which can be moulded with the reliable hands of information. I know that with passing human age, it becomes difficult as the clay of mind hardens and it tends to repel new change. But as young minds, we should always be open to new thoughts and be more tolerant towards new ideas. You are not in any moral obligation to defend any idea if you don’t find yourself in compliance with it. A good idea might have been considered good through many ages but if it goes against the basics of your predefined morals or rationales, you have the right to reject it.

Don’t be a defender of stagnant ideas. Be a sailor of the dynamic voyage.
